Melanie Jayne Lynskey
Melanie Jayne Lynskey, born on the 16th
of May, 1977, is a New Zealand actress. She is renowned for her quirky,
soft-spoken but headstrong characters. She primarily works in independent
films. She's won an award from the New Zealand Film Award as along with a
Hollywood Film Award as well as an Sundance Special Jury Award. Lynskey made
her debut in film as a teenage murderess , in Peter Jackson's Heavenly
Creatures (1994). After making the move to the United States in 1994, Lynskey
launched a successful career playing supporting roles in a number of big-budget
and smaller-scale films. These include Ever After (1998) and Detroit Rock City
and But I'm a Cherleader (both 1999), Coyote Ugly (2000), Abandon and Sweet
Home Alabama (1902), Shattered Glass (2003) and Flags of Our Fathers (2006).
Lynskey earned critical acclaim as well as a nomination for the Gotham Award
for Breakthrough Performer for her starring role as a depressed divorcee Hello
I Must Be Going (2012) The film proved to be a pivotal point for her career.
Her subsequent lead roles included Happy Christmas, We'll Never Have Paris
Goodbye to All That (all 2014), The Intervention, Rainbow Time, Little Boxes
(all 2016) I'm Not at Home in This World Anymore, And Then I Go (both 2017),
Sadie (2018) and Lady of the Manor (2021) have established her as an important
figure in the American independent film industry. Lynskey is also known for her
character of Rose on Two and a Half Men (2003-2015). She appeared on
Togetherness from 2015 to the year 2016. She was nominated for the 2015
Critics’ Choice Television Award for the Best Supporting Artistress. She voiced
Beatrice for the Cartoon Network's Over the Garden Wall (2014) and Megan for
Disney XD's Future-Worm! (2016-2018). She was in Molly Strand's first season of
Hulu (2018) and Rosemary Thomson was her role in Mrs. America (2020).
