Her parents relocated to Dallas just after her birth. She educated at Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts located in the Arts District of downtown Dallas. She also spent six years at the respected Dallas Theatre Center and one year with that theatre's Encore Company. Her acting career began in the theaters prior to her major screen debut.
